"Late Bloomer"
This painting and I definitely have a longterm relationship. I put the first strokes down in May 2018.
I remember being frustrated with my art and myself, feeling like I wasn’t making the progress I was desiring. The process of the very first layer of this painting was one of finding compassion for myself and letting go of my anger. It sat in a corner for months at a time before I added another layer, adding a new thing to my process and putting it back.
What was frustrating at the time and making me feel like I wasn't growing fast enough, is now a beautiful witness to my journey of abstract painting. I can see so much of my progress and of my desire to express myself fulfilled in it.
It's a reminder that your journey is going at its own pace no matter how much you try to hurry it and bloom only happens when the time is ripe.
